Biles grew up within Spring Texas in the Houston metropolitan area after she and her younger sister Adria were adopted by their grandparents Ronald Biles and Nellie Biles. Simone was introduced to gymnastics by her daycare teacher Aimee Borman, when she was just six years old. Biles stayed with Bannon's Gymnastix for eleven years. Biles was awarded a gold medal in floor exercise and a bronze in vault during the women's Junior Olympic National Championships in 2010 before breaking into the elite competition in 2011. In less than two years, she dominated the sport. Biles's consistency, her exuberant personality and the level of difficulty in her four events -- vault uneven bars balance beam floor workout and floor exercises -- helped to set her out from the rest of the athletes.
